Passin' the Faith Along: Connecting the Dots

Posted

Do you recall drawing pictures by connecting the dots? Somewhere along the way the picture began to come into focus. Finally, you are racing toward the last dot to complete the picture. A life of faith is like that. As you move to each prescribed “dot” that God has placed in developing the picture of your life, the purpose begins to become more meaningful.

I was called to preach in a Sunday night service at age twenty-three. It was a dramatic moment in my life. But, I certainly did not have a clue what would be involved and how God would order the days ahead. Within a year it was off to Bible School with a wife and two daughters. Still, as sincere as I was, my mind did not give birth to the faintest notion of where this was heading.

Now, looking back down a winding trail of decades, I stand in utter amazement at the pathway the Lord had prepared. Have there been struggles? Of course! Disappointments? Some of major proportion! Have there been victories? More than I can possibly enumerate! Would I trade my “dots” for another set? Not for a million years!

On more than one occasion, I have spoken with a person who has serious reservations about following the plan of God for his or her life. For some reason - perhaps the negative comments they have heard or the sour attitudes they have been subjected to - this individual has come to the erroneous conclusion that a life of obedience is dull and boring. In order to please God you must be totally miserable. Don’t ever buy into such nonsense.

The most satisfying place that any of us can ever hope to find on this earth is in the very center of God’s purpose and will.

So today start connecting the dots of your life by... “presenting yourself a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  And to not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God." - Romans 12:1, 2 NKJV.
