Lumberjacks send Ricebirds flying

The Warren Lumberjacks continue in the playoffs after their victory against the Stuttgart Ricebirds, 62-24.

Lumberjack Coach Bo Hembree told The Eagle Democrat it was their best game they’ve played all season.

The Lumberjacks received the opening kickoff. The ball was caught by Malik Day at the 47-yard line.

Jalin Lee ran the ball from the 30-yard line to the 17-yard line.

The Lumberjacks moved to the seven-yard line. Quarterback Maddox Lassiter ran the ball from there, rushing to the end zone for the first touchdown of the night with 9:46 left in the first quarter.

After a good kick by Jose Jacinto, the Lumberjacks led 7-0.

With the Ricebirds next on offense, they were forced to punt.

The Lumberjacks were also forced to punt at 7:49.

The Ricebirds were soon forced to punt again.

At 3:60, Lassiter didn’t let a pile of Ricebirds players try to stop him from getting to the six-yard line.

Landon Wolfe then scored a touchdown on the carry at 2:40.

Jacinto performed a good kick, giving the Lumberjacks 14-0.

With 20 seconds left in the first quarter, the Ricebirds punted that was caught by Antonio Jordan who ran a few yards before fumbling that was recovered by the Ricebirds at the Lumberjacks’ 41-yard line.

The Lumberjacks came into the second quarter in the lead, 14-0.

The Ricebirds scored their first touchdown at 9:38 in the second quarter. The Ricebirds quarterback handed off to the receiver for the touchdown.

After their good kick, they had 14-7.

Day caught the ball at the kickoff and dashed around the Ricebirds to the Ricebirds’ 39-yard line.

The Lumberjacks made it to the seven-yard line. Lassiter performed a handoff to Landon Wolfe who attempted to run through the defense, but was tackled at the five-yard line.

At 7:22, Lassiter ran through the defense for a touchdown.

The kick by Jacinto was no good, but the Lumberjacks remained in the lead 20-7.

At 6:23, Lassiter threw a 36-yard pass to Neon’dre Thomas at the end zone for another touchdown.

The Lumberjacks attempted a two-point conversion, but was unable to get it through.

The Ricebirds scored a touchdown at 2:17. After their extra point, they had 26-14.

With about a minute left in the second quarter, Lassiter made a pass to Treylon Jackson for a 19-yard play to the 18-yard line.

Ervin Rivera caught the pass at the three-yard line.

Lassiter scored another touchdown from the three-yard line with less than a minute left.

Lassiter passed to Tayshawn Johnson for a two-point conversion, making the score 34-14.

The Ricebirds soon scored another touchdown with 20 seconds left. The kick was good, making the score 34-21.

The Lumberjacks led in the final half 34-21. The Lumberjacks were on defense.

The Ricebirds punted from the 10-yard line for a touchdown at 6:24 in the third quarter. The score was then, 34-24.

Lassiter passed to Jordan for a 31-yard play to the end zone for a touchdown. The score was 42-24.

At 2:40, Lassiter made an amazing 88-yard run to the end zone for another touchdown. Jacinto’s extra kick was good. The score was 49-24.

With 9:43 left in the final quarter, Wolfe scored a touchdown for the Lumberjacks, 56-24.

Race Frazer scored a touchdown with 5:16 left in the game. The extra point by Jacinto was no good, but the Lumberjacks remained in the lead, ultimately winning the game.

Sportsmanship Rule was put in effect at 4:47.

The Lumberjacks played 534 yards with 326 on the ground.

Lassiter led the game with 12 carries for 179 yards and four touchdowns. Lassiter threw a total of 208 yards.

Jackson rushed 10 times for 63 yards in the game. He also had four catches for 60 yards.

Wolfe scored two touchdowns and ran the ball seen times for 48 yards.

Jordan had two catches for 53 yards and scored a touchdown.

The Lumberjacks advance to the quarterfinals where they will host Malvern at home on Friday at 7 p.m.
