Warren School Board hears solar power proposal from Clear Energy

The Warren School Board met with a representative from Clear Energy about solar power at the monthly school board meeting on Thursday, July 20. The representative presented what solar power could do for the school district and how it can save the district money on energy costs.

The school board approved the following during the meeting: the district level improvement plan; school board member Joel Tolefree as Arkansas School Board Association legislative liason; the 2023-2024 statement of assurances; the Arkansas Department of Education Statement of Assurances for Programs Under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965; the school health survey for the 2022-2023 school year; proposed budget of expenditures; First State Bank as the primary bank account for the school district; the ABC Preschool salary schedule; the athletic insurance; approval to allow PC Hardware to install locks on doors; allow safety and security window film from D&D Sun Control, Inc.; the visitor management system on all campuses; and amendment of the Brunson Elementary Handbook on absences.

Warren School Superintendent Bryan Cornish told the school board the elementary school project was near completion, but the weather had halted progress. The district is waiting for the elementary parking lot to be completed. Teachers had begun moving their classrooms to the new Warren Elementary School building.

The module buildings used last school year will be removed from the student parking lot. High school students will be in the Warren High School building.

Rosie Rainey sent a letter to the school board announcing her retirement. She worked as a food service worker for 40 years for the Warren School District.

The school board accepted the resignations of Brooke Scogin, SEACBEC computer science instructor, and Ashley Rogers, SEACBEC secretary.

The school board approved the following hiring recommendations: Justin Glauser, SEACBEC computer science instructor; Deborah Minton, food service worker; Jamie Crozier, SEACBEC secretary; Haliey Hudson, SEACBEC computer lab facilitator; Carmillia Bivens, Warren Middle School paraprofessional; Ashley Taylor, bus driver; Greg Anthony, bus driver; Joe Mason, bus driver; Donovan Thomas, bus driver; Betty Haynes, bus driver; Vernon Colvin, bus driver; Shaun Wilson, bus driver; James Steed White, bus driver; Henry Cox, bus driver; Wayne White, bus driver; and Idonia Godwin, substitute bus driver.

The next school board meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 21 at the Warren School Administration Building.
