Warren recognized for achievements in literacy

The Eagle Democrat was among countless local businesses to be honored recently by the Warren School District with a Gold Rise Community Award.

Through innovative efforts to get not only students, but older adults as well, involved in reading, Warren School District received a grant to promote literacy within the community.

Many businesses set up “Reading Corners” within their offices, as well as other businesses and members of the community donating money and other resources to the cause.

Students from Warren High School worked at the Pink Tomato Festival this summer to distribute books in addition to working with the “book bus” that drove around Warren handing out books.

A ceremony was held at Warren Elementary that opened with the JROTC students presenting the colors and saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

Superintendent Bryan Cornish welcomed the crowd and thanked Warren native Craig O’Neill for being present.

Members from the school district and the Arkansas Department of Education spoke about the success of this program and how it was made possible by the tremendous effort put forth by the community.
