The Rotary Club of Warren met Tuesday for its weekly meeting with Kenna Sparks as the program for the day. Sparks is serving as the chairwoman for the Pink Tomato Festival, which will have events all week June 5-10. Sparks mentioned that technically the festival kicks off this week with the Tour de Tomato Bike Ride this Saturday, May 20 at 7 a.m.
The bulk of the pageants, including Miss Pink Tomato, will be Saturday June 3 at the Hermitage Community Center with the Cutest Baby Contest set for June 9, while the Little Miss Pink Tomato pageant will be June 10 in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church.
The Gospel Jamboree sponsored by the Lions Club will take place on Thursday, June 8 at the Immanuel Baptist Church Family Life Center.
She mentioned the Arts and Crafts show will be the biggest one the festival has ever had with at least two times, maybe three times, the normal amount of vendors and space will be made to accommodate them.
The Quilt Show has been moved to the YMCA and the Car Show will take place on Main Street. Additionally, the All-Tomato Luncheon is back and will be held Saturday, June 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Activities Center.
The entertainment is set with Josie Hargis for the Friday night headliner, while Trea Landon will be the opening act on Saturday with David Nail serving as the headliner.
The festival will end with a big fireworks show as in years past. Sparks mentioned there are some logistical issues to be worked out with the Friday night DJ and the Hispanic music on Saturday, but are hoping to get that finalized soon.
She spoke about hoping to have a few more announcements in the coming weeks regarding events for the Festival and closed the program by answering a few questions from the crowd.
