Martha Jean McDougald Gibson, 87, of Richardson, Texas passed away April 18, 2023 peacefully in her sleep. Martha was born March 9, 1936 in Jersey to John and Maude McDougald.

Martha was a beautiful lady and in high school she was selected a beauty queen. After graduating from high school, she went on to study at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where she was a cheerleader. It was in college that she met John Wayne Gibson from Warren, who was on the football team.

Martha and John married in 1960 and had two children, John Wayne, Jr. and Marcus Lee, raising their family in Richardson, Texas. Martha worked at Texas Instruments Dallas, retiring early to become a devoted stay at home mother to her two sons. While raising the two boys, Martha’s hobby was attending garage sales, where she bought thousands of trinkets that she called treasures. For over twenty years she taught Sunday School for four- and five-year-olds at Heights Baptist Church of Richardson, Texas, calling them all her babies. She loved the Lord and her family and was loved. She will be dearly missed, but she is in a better place.

Martha was preceded in death by her mother and dad, of Arsenal, Ark.; and two sisters, Ann Jo Kennedy of Merchantville, Va. and Elizabeth Coker of Little Rock.

Martha is survived by her husband of 63 years, John Wayne Gibson, Sr.; her two sons, John Wayne Gibson, Jr. and wife Kimberly of Cypress, Texas and Marcus Lee Gibson of Richardson, Texas; and four grandchildren, Jacob, Blake, Jordan, and Evan.

Graveside was 11 a.m. April 22 at Gibson Family Cemetery in Warren under the direction of Frazer’s Funeral Home. Pallbearers will consist of her four grandchildren plus Judd Gibson and Chad Gibson. Pastor Jay Gibson, Martha’s nephew, will preside over the service.
