The Lumberjacks sent the White Hall Bulldogs to the dog house after Friday night’s win of 34-27.
The Lumberjacks and Bulldogs played a tough game with the game being tied during the second quarter until the 4th quarter.
“We made a lot of mistakes, but we just kept playing, and they made them too,” said Lumberjack Head Coach Bo Hembree. “It was an early non-conference game. The Bulldogs have a chance to be a really good football team. They’re big, they’re physical, they’re fast. Our guys kept playing. Our freshman quarterback is going to keep growing every week. We have four really, really good wideouts. You can’t just take one away. Tonight, it was Tramond [Miller]’s night. Last week was Kam [Davis]’s night. It’s just who’s going to step up each week and tonight it was Tramond.”
The Bulldogs won the coin toss and elected the Lumberjacks to receive.
The Lumberjacks started off strong with Kam Davis scoring the first touchdown at the kickoff for a 94-yard return. The extra point by Lumberjack kicker Allen Juarez’s was good, giving the Lumberjacks the lead 7-0.
With 8:30 in the first quarter, the Bulldogs offense were at the 20-yard line. After getting to the 15-yard line, the Bulldog quarterback made a complete pass at the end zone. Their extra point was good, tying the game 7-7.
The Lumberjacks fumbled the ball at the next kickoff and it was recovered by the Bulldogs at the 40-yard line.
The Bulldogs offense scored another touchdown with 6:46 left in the first quarter from the 21-yard line. This put them in the lead, 13-7.
With 2:27 left in the first quarter, Lumberjack Cameron Burks recovered a fumble by the Bulldogs. And ran it to the 49-yard line.
The Bulldogs remained in the lead in the second quarter with 13-7 on the scoreboard.
Early in the quarter, the Lumberjacks’ Cody Weatherspoon recovered a fumble at their 32-yard line.
At 5:44 in the second quarter, a foul was called against the Bulldogs defense resulting in them getting a 15-yard penalty. This moved the Lumberjacks to the 50-yard line.
The Lumberjacks’ quarterback Jackson Denton threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Kam Davis. The extra point was no good, resulting in another tie with the Bulldogs 13-13 leading into the third quarter.
At 10:43 in the third quarter, unsportsmanlike conduct was called against the Lumberjacks.
At 8:18, the Bulldogs’ quarterback threw an incomplete pass.
Both the Lumberjacks and Bulldogs were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct with four minutes left.
The Lumberjacks and Bulldogs went into the final quarter still tied 13-13. Tension was in the air as the clock counted down.
At 11:53 left in the quarter, Neondre Thomas intercepted a pass.
The Lumberjacks offense were at the 10-yard line. Denton made a pass to Antonio Jordan at the end zone and breaking the tie. After the extra point, the Lumberjacks led 20-13.
The Bulldogs scored a touchdown with an 80-yard run down to the end zone. Their kick was good, tying them again with the Lumberjacks 20-20.
The Lumberjacks scored another touchdown at 10:19. Denton threw a 19-yard pass to Tramond Miller for the touchdown. The kick by Juarez was good, giving the Lumberjacks 27-20.
At 5:05 in the final quarter, the Bulldogs scored another touchdown, resulting in another tie 27-27.
Weatherspoon caught an interception and ran to the 15-yard line.
With 43 second left to go, the Lumberjacks were at the six-yard line. Jordan scored the final touchdown with a two-yard rushing touchdown off the right tackle. The extra point by Juarez was good.
As the final seconds came down, the Lumberjacks won the game 34-27.
Treylong Jackson had seven carries and 27 yards. Jordan had two carries, six yards, and one touchdown.
Quarterback Denton had 282 yards and three touchdowns.
Miller had nine catches, 111 yards and one touchdown.
Jordan had three catches, 44 yards, and one touchdown.
Davis had two catches, 96 yards and one touchdown.
The Lumberjacks will be off Friday for a bye week, but will play against Star City at home at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 15.
