Lumberjacks send Bulldogs back to the dog house, 44-7

The Warren Lumberjacks began began conference play against the Star City Bulldogs with a win 44-7. The Lumberjacks hosted the Bulldogs at home turf.

“Offensively, there was two drives in the first half where we don’t score and we got to fix that. The first one there was a fumble snap and low yardage. The next one we ran out of downs,” said Warren Lumberjack Head Coach Bo Hembree after the game. “I want to be more efficient on offense. We got to be able to score, which we did, but we want to be more efficient. We just have to keep getting better.”

The Lumberjacks received the opening kickoff from the Bulldogs to start the game. It didn’t take long for the Lumberjacks to score the first touchdown of the night with 11:41 in the first quarter. Lumberjack quarterback Jackson Denton passed to Kam Davis who made an 80-yard run to the end zone for the touchdown. The kick by Allen Juarez was good, giving the Lumberjacks the lead 7-0.

A personal foul was called against the Bulldogs at the 15-yard line with 11:32 in the first quarter.

Thomas caught the ball at the return on the 50-yard line after the Bulldogs were forced to punt. Thomas ran the ball to the 40-yard line.

The Bulldogs called a timeout with five minutes left in the first quarter.

At 4:17, the Bulldogs’ offense had flag on the play against them at the 36-yard line. They were penalized 10-yards to the 46-yard line.

With about two minutes left in the first quarter, the Bulldogs called another timeout.

At 2:13, at the 37-yard line Denton passed to Tramond Miller who ran to the end zone. However, a flag was thrown against the Lumberjacks for holding, forfeiting the touchdown.

With two minutes left in the first quarter, the Lumberjacks’ offense was on the 22-yard line.

Denton passed to Thomas who caught the ball at the end zone and scoring another touchdown for the Lumberjacks. After a successful kick by Juarez, the Lumberjacks continued to lead 14-0.

At the following kickoff, the Bulldogs caught the ball at the other end of the field and ran to the 40-yard line where the Bulldog player fumbled the ball and was recovered by Braden Smith for the Lumberjacks.

The Lumberjacks entered the second quarter in the lead 14-0.

The Bulldogs were forced to punt at the 26-yard line with 10:18 left in the quarter. When the quarterback punted, the ball went backwards.

With ten minutes left in the second quarter, the Lumberjacks’ offense was at the 27-yard line. The ball was caught by Davis who ran 73 yards down the field dodging the Bulldogs defense and making it to the end zone for another touchdown. The kick was good giving the Lumberjacks 21-0.

At 8:15 the Bulldogs fumbled the ball at the 32-yard line and was recovered by the Lumberjacks.

At 7:24, Ervin Rivera ran 42 yards to the end zone for a touchdown. The kick by Juarez was good giving the Lumberjacks 30-0.

With 45 seconds left in the first half, Jackson scored a touchdown with a two-yard run to the end zone for another touchdown for the Lumberjacks. The kick by Juarez was once again successful and the Lumberjacks ended the first half in the lead with 37-0.

The sportsmanship rule went into effect in the third quarter. Miguel Mendoza did the kickoff to start the second half.

A few plays later, the Bulldogs were forced to punt.

Cameron Burks took over quarterback duties in the second half. At 7:25, he made a 32-yard pass to Braden Smith who caught the ball at the end zone. After another good kick, the Lumberjacks led 44-0.

The Bulldogs moved down to the nine-yard line with 50 seconds left in the third quarter and scored their first and only touchdown of the night. Their kick was good giving them seven points.

Kolby Pope took over the quarterback position in the final quarter.

De’Sean Adams received a fumble by the Bulldogs at their 40-yard line.

The final score was 44-7 for the Lumberjacks.

The Lumberjacks offense had 417 yards, 340 passing yards, and 77 rushing yards.

Denton had 308 yards and four touchdowns. Treylon Jackson had nine carries for 63 yards and a touchdown. Davis had two catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Antonio Jordan had three catches for 71 yards.

The Lumberjacks will play against McGehee at 7 p.m. at home on Friday night.
