Lumberjacks narrowly defeats Crossett Eagles 49-42

After a close game, the Warren Lumberjacks defeated the Crossett Eagles 49-42 at Friday night’s game. The Lumberjacks traveled to Crossett.

“We had six turnovers, couldn’t stop six. We got lucky to win,” said Lumberjack Head Coach Bo Hembree. “We can’t have six turnovers and expect to win. [Crossett] is a good football team. I knew it all week. It was just a good thing we made one more play than they did.”

The Lumberjacks won the coin toss and elected to receive. At the opening kickoff, the ball was caught by Antonio Jordan at the 20-yard line.

The Lumberjacks showed the Eagles they came to win with a touchdown at 11:03 in the first quarter. The Lumberjacks were at the 31-yard line where Lumberjack quarterback Jackson Denton threw a 31-yard pass to Neon’dre Thomas at the end zone. The kick by Lumberjack kicker Allen Juarez was good, giving the Lumberjacks the lead 7-0.

The Lumberjacks defense held strong against the Eagles’ offensive line forcing them to punt at the 25-yard line with 9:40 left in the first quarter. The punt was caught by Antonio Jordan at the Lumberjacks’ 40-yard line. Jordan ran the ball to the Eagles’ 43-yard line.

With 3:32 left in the first quarter, the Eagles’ offense made their way to the 15-yard line. The Eagles’ quarterback threw a 15-yard pass to their wide receiver at the end zone scoring their first touchdown. Their extra point was good tying the game 7-7.

With a minute left in the first quarter, the Lumberjacks made their way down field to the Eagles’ 18-yard line. Denton passed to Tramond Miller at the end zone, but it was intercepted by the Eagles.

The Lumberjacks and the Eagles went into the second quarter tied 7-7.

The Eagles’ offense was at the 15-yard line. A flag was thrown on the next play for holding against the Eagles. They were penalized five-yards.

The Eagles were forced to punt again at the 17-yard line.

The Lumberjacks offense were at the Eagles’ 32-yard line with 10:31 left in the second quarter. Denton performed a handoff to Ervin Rivera who drove it through to the end zone scoring a touchdown. The kick by Juarez was good and breaking the tie 14-7.

The Lumberjacks’ defense continued to hold up a fight forcing the Eagles to punt at the 20-yard line.

With the Lumberjacks back on offense at the 44-yard line, Denton passed to Neon’dre Thomas who ran the ball for 40 yards to the end zone for another touchdown. The extra point was good giving the Lumberjacks 21 to the Eagles’ 7.

The Eagles punted at the 32-yard line.

With 6:40 left, the Lumberjacks fumbled the ball which was recovered by the Eagles putting them back on offense.

The Eagles’ offense played tougher making it to the 18-yard line. Their wide receiver pushed through the Lumberjacks defense with his ball hand crossing the end zone line scoring a touchdown for the Eagles, 21-14.

At the kickoff, the Eagles had to re-kick three times.

The Lumberjacks’ offense held their own at the 34-yard line. Denton passed to Neon’dre Thomas again at the end zone for another touchdown with five minutes left in the first half. After a successful kick by Juarez, the Lumberjacks led 28-14.

The third quarter had the Lumberjacks in the lead.

With 10:10 left, Jordan slammed an Eagles player on the ground causing a flag thrown against the Lumberjacks for personal foul. The Eagles offense moved to the Lumberjacks’ 20-yard line.

With 9:15 left, the Eagles’ quarterback ran to the end zone for a touchdown. Their kick was good giving them 28-21, with the Lumberjacks still in the lead.

With 6:50 left in the third quarter, the Lumberjacks’ offense was at the 50-yard line. Denton passed to Antonio Jordan who ran the ball 48-yards to the two-yard line.

At the next play, Ervin Rivera carried the ball to the end zone for a touchdown. The kick was good by Juarez making the score 35-21.

At 4:28, the Eagles’ offense was one yard away from the end zone. The Eagles scored the touchdown on second down. Their extra point was good making the score 35-28.

With 3:30 left in the third quarter, the Lumberjacks’ offense was at the 34-yard line. A fumble on the play was recovered by the Eagles at the 50-yard line.

Soon after, the Eagles’ wide receiver ran the ball from the 48-yard line to the three-yard line. The Eagles scored another touchdown. With the extra point good, the game was tied again 35-35.

Ervin Rivera ran the ball from the Lumberjacks’ 37-yard line to the five-yard line. However, a flag was thrown against the Lumberjacks for holding.

The Lumberjacks and Eagles went into the fourth and final quarter tied 35-35.

At 8:40, Kam Davis ran the ball from the 39-yard line to the end zone scoring a touchdown. The extra kick was good breaking the tie in the Lumberjacks’ favor 42-35.

The Lumberjacks recovered the ball after the Eagles fumbled on a play at the 25-yard line with 8:26 left.

With 4:23 left, the Lumberjacks’ offense was at the 13-yard line. Jordyn Ingram broke through the Eagles’ defense scoring a touchdown. Juarez performed another successful kick. The score was 49-35.

The Eagles’ quarterback completed a 60-yard pass to the wide receiver at the end zone for a touchdown. With their extra point good, the Eagles were not far behind the Lumberjacks 49-42. But it wasn’t enough for the Eagles to defeat the Lumberjacks.

The Lumberjacks continue the season 5-0. They will play against Dumas at Friday’s Homecoming game at 7 p.m. The Homecoming Parade will be at 2:30 p.m.
