The Hermitage School Board met on Monday, December 11, 2023, for its regular monthly meeting and conducted several business items which included approval of the previous meeting’s minutes and review of the school finances.

Superintendent LaDonna Spain updated the school board on the current financial report. Board members received a report that shows if a school is in fiscal distress and Spain reported that the district is in good shape. “The district is in their normal phase of expenditures with utilities, and everything is looking good,” Spain said.

Finances will be reviewed more in-depth in January. A motion was made to approve and accept the report.

Elementary principal Tara Gates addressed the board about enrollment, attendance, behavior, and discipline incidents. Gates has been giving out certificates for perfect attendance each month to encourage students to attend. In November, she awarded 100 students with perfect attendance certificates. Enrollment stands at 191 students.

Spain presented the high school report on behalf of high school principal Misti McGhee who was attending an out-of-town school function. Spain informed the board that the school is trying to cut down on the number of tardies by placing monitors in the hallways. The average daily attendance for November/December is 96.5.

The school board heard reports on the America Rescue Plan Act and the Implementation of the School Safety Grant.

The board acted upon the following items of business:

  • Bid approval to replace twenty windows in the basketball gym.
  • Approval of the Hermitage School District Resolution Adopting the Bradley County Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The school board then went into an executive session.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m., January 8, in the office of the superintendent.
