Warren School District raises teacher salaries

The Warren School Board approved a salary increase for certified personnel for $50,000 under the new state LEARNS Act that was passed. The LEARNS Act sets the base salary for certified teachers at $50,000. An additional $2,000 would be included to teachers already making $50,000. Administrator salaries were raised by $2,000.

The school board heard a presentation by Mainline Health CEO Allan Nichols about installing a school-based health clinic. No action was taken.

The school board approved the playground bid from Davis Playground for $178,942 for new playground equipment. Another bid of $39,000 from Davis Playground would purchase shades.

Warren Superintendent Bryan Cornish said work was still being done at the elementary school. Painting is being done inside and ceiling tiles are being installed.

The school board voted to officially name the new elementary school Warren Elementary School. 

Superintendent Cornish hopes to have the high school occupied by July.

The school district received a $164,000 grant for safety upgrades for the schools.

The school board approved the 2021-2022 legislative audit.

Brunson Elementary Principal Regina Scroggins announced her retirement. She has been in education for 37 years and worked at the Warren School District for 31 years. Before being the principal, she was the special education teacher.

The school board accepted the following resignations: Elizabeth McKinney, assistant principal at Eastside Elementary; Misty Reynolds, second grade instructor at Eastside; Kristin Weeks, sixth grade instructor at Warren Middle School; and Randi Hasley, cheer sponsor at Warren High School.

The following hiring recommendations were approved: Elizabeth McKinney, second grade instructor at Eastside; Lisa Courtney, WHS English instructor; Brooke Hogue, Warren High School FACS instructor; Logan Evans, Warren High School History instructor; Eric Greene, Warren High School History instructor; Susan Hennell, Warren High School Math instructor; and Ginnie Sellers, Warren High School Math instructor.

The next school board meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 8 at the Warren School Administration Building.
