Warren School District Board reviews financials and student progress

The Warren School District Board of Education held its regular meeting for May, beginning with the approval of minutes from the previous session.
Financial Overview
The board reviewed and unanimously approved the district’s financial report. Key figures included:

• Operating Revenue: $1,098,087.73
• Total Revenue (All Funds): $1,653,700.07
• Teacher Salary Expenditures: $488,024.63
• Operating Expenditures: $637,404.16
• Total Expenditures (All Funds): $1,668,043.38

Ending balances reported for various funds were as follows:

• Operating Fund: $3,507,954.59
• Regular Building Fund: $1,571,411.56
• Building Bond Fund: $473,369.55
• Total for All Funds: $7,779,620.19

Devon McDiarmid presented assessment results for the Warren ABC Preschool, highlighting the implementation of the RISE Literacy Intervention program in pre-kindergarten classrooms. Students were evaluated in September, February, and May, with data showing significant growth in all areas of literacy. The program, paired with Launchpad, is part of a district initiative to support incoming kindergarten students.

The board entered executive session to discuss personnel matters. Upon returning to regular session, all recommendations and actions discussed were approved by vote.

The board approved updates to district policies and a revised meal reimbursement plan. In addition, approval was granted for the purchase of a new vehicle for the district’s athletic director.
Superintendent Cornish expressed gratitude to local banks for their support of teachers, and he commended educators for their dedication and hard work throughout the school year.

He also shared recent accomplishments of students at SEACBEC (Southeast Arkansas Community-Based Education Center), and noted that ATLAS testing is wrapping up across the district, with iReady assessments set to begin shortly. Cornish concluded with updates on school sports and ongoing athletic events.
