Warren School Board discusses low test scores

The principals at Warren School District each presented the reading and math test results from the state to the Warren School Board at their monthly meeting on Monday, July 11. The school board brought up concerns about the test results being low. The school board asked the principals what they could do to help increase test scores. The principals told the school board they were working to address the issue and there were still improvements that needed to be made.

The school board received two petitions to transfer two students to another school district. One petition was for a student transfer to Woodlawn School District and the other petition was for a student transfer to Hermitage School District. Both petitions were denied by the school board.

An amendment to the Warren High School Handbook was approved that would require students to have 24 credits to graduate instead of 22 credits. The amendment was approved. Another amendment added a Survey of Business course and require it for all students who graduate beginning in 2026.

Superintendent Bryan Cornish reported they were close to having the portable classrooms completely set up. The portable restrooms were set up and light poles were installed. Superintendent Cornish commented it looked like a small town.

Superintendent Cornish said progress on the new elementary school and arena was going as scheduled.

The school board approved the public school vehicle insurance renewal at the cost of $19,516 and the property insurance at the cost of $78,407.87.

The school board accepted milk and bread bids from Hiland Dairy and Flowers Baking Company.

The school board accepted the following resignations: Taminsha Aunta Carter Evens, as Warren High School Algebra II instructor and Austin Hardy, as Warren High School coach and P.E. instructor.

The school board approved the following hiring recommendations: Clark Watkins, defensive coordinator; Gia Morse, Warren High School Algebra II instructor; LaDarian Pace, Warren High School Head senior high girls basketball coach, assistant junior high girls basketball coach, assistant senior and junior high track coach, and Warren High School Health instructor; Shelby Bays, Warren Middle School, eighth grade science instructor; Tiffany Domineck, six hour cook; Jennifer Outlaw, from five hour cafeteria position at Warren Middle School to seven hour cafeteria position at Brunson Elementary; Kabrina Tenner, from six hour cafeteria position at Eastside to five hour cafeteria positions at Warren Middle School; and Micah Richey, from golf to tennis coach.

The next school board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, August 8 at the Warren School District Administration Building.
