Warren School Board approves contract with Metro Disaster

The Warren School Board approved a contract with Metro Disaster Specialists for the removal of contents and to restore items in the Warren High School Building after the fire on March 30. Warren School Superintendent Bryan Cornish said they hope to be able to restore the school memorabilia, musical instruments, and band uniforms They will also provide temporary classrooms for the 2022-2023 school year for Warren High School. The temporary classrooms will be set up in the student parking lot. Superintendent Cornish said half of the parking lot would be used for the temporary classrooms and the other half would be for parking. He reported there will be 10 temporary buildings, which would hold 20 classrooms and two offices. Two portable restrooms will be installed also.

 The school board approved to extend the ACT 1240 Waiver Plan to five years. The plan allows the school district to hire teachers that are not certified and work with them to get their certification.

The school district received two bids to furnish the new elementary school being built. Superintendent Cornish recommended the purchase from VIRCO for $474,246.26. The school board approved the recommendation.

 In his report, Superintendent Cornish thanked the school secretaries and nurses for the work they do. He thanked those in the community who helped make prom possible. The Warren High School Prom was held at the National Guard Readiness Center.

He said the school district was going to meet with a forensic engineering team to determine which part of the high school would be salvageable and determine which part they could start restoring. He said he hoped they could have the cafeteria restored by the fall.

The school board approved the following resignations: Rebecca May, Eastside instructor; DarShauna Shepherd, Warren Middle School Assistant Principal; Nathaniel Jackson, Warren Middle School Counselor; Amye Young, Brunson and Warren Middle School art instructor; Jessica Lacey Hackett, Warren Middle School English instructor; Sara Daniell, Warren Middle School Literacy instructor; Eugene Tate, Elementary P.E. instructor, Jr. High head girls basketball coach, assistant girl senior high basketball coach, and assistant track coach; Billy Reed, Warren High School instructor; Kaci Wilkerson, school nurse; Daysha Matthews, paraprofessional/ISS instructor at Brunson; April Thompson, paraprofessional at Warren Middle School; and Heidi Lassiter, Warren High School Parent Involvement Facilitator.

The school board approved the following hires: Madison Neal, Eastside instructor; Dalila Pedroza, Eastside Instructor; Ruby Ar”Dell” Donaldson, Brunson Instructor; Tristan McMahan, Warren Middle School counselor; Brandy Roebuck, Warren Middle School Social Studies instructor; Melanie Deshon Vereen, Warren Middle School science instructor; Tina Anthony, Warren Middle School literacy instructor; Stacey Carmeans, Warren High School history instructor; Erick Roebuck, Warren High School oral communication instructor; and Sara Daniell, Warren High School instructor.

 The next Warren School Board meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 13 at Warren School District Administration Building.
