Warren Rotary Club learns about Arkansas Hospice

The Rotary Club of Warren met Tuesday, Sept. 26 inside First United Methodist Church for its weekly meeting. Rotary President Dennen Cuthbertson made a few announcements including that Junior Rotarians from Warren High School will start next week on October 3 before introducing the program of Tyler Turner from Arkansas Hospice.

Turner is the Community Liaison and Volunteer Coordinator for LifeTouch Hospice out of El Dorado, which is now part of Arkansas Hospice. Turner, an active Rotarian in the El Dorado club, started by talking a bit about their club and how much Rotary means to him along with the motto of “Service Above Self.”

After touching on some of the projects their club is involved in, he went into his role. He spoke briefly about hospice care in general and explained that it just doesn’t mean the last few weeks or days of someone’s life. It may be a months long commitment and something that keeps getting renewed.

Turner spoke about the merger of LifeTouch Hospice with Arkansas Hospice and let the group know their office serves Bradley, Calhoun, Columbia, Ouachita, and Union counties while Arkansas Hospice as a whole serves most of the state.

He transitioned into how families need to talk about end-of-life situations, have a living will, and other steps to make sure they are cared for once they get to that time.

It’s difficult to talk about, but conversations that need to be had.

Turner went into the process of how to become a volunteer and said they need some more volunteers in Bradley County. He ended his speech by answering a few questions from the crowd.
