Warren Dominates Pocahontas in playoff victory

Posted

The Warren Lumberjacks put on a commanding performance in their playoff opener, cruising to a 35-0 victory over the Pocahontas Redskins. From the very first possession, Warren’s offense was firing on all cylinders, stifling Pocahontas at every turn. The victory advances Warren to the next round of the playoffs, where they will look to continue their postseason run.

The game began with Warren winning the coin toss and electing to receive the opening kickoff. Starting at their own 42-yard line, the Lumberjacks wasted no time. Quarterback Cam Burks connected on a quick pass to Antonio Jordan, setting up a first down on the Pocahontas 38-yard line. Despite a brief setback with an incomplete pass, Warren kept moving the chains. On a crucial third-and-15, Burks found Tramond Miller for a big gain, and Jordan ran for the first down on the next play to put Warren inside the Pocahontas 30-yard line.

On the very next play, Jordan rushed for another solid gain, setting up a first down at the Pocahontas 11-yard line. Burks then kept the ball himself, scrambling to the 8-yard line before Jordan punched it in for a touchdown with 9:14 left in the first quarter. The extra point was good, and Warren led 7-0 early.

Pocahontas responded by starting their first possession from their own 34-yard line, but they couldn't get anything going. Quarterback D.J. Coffee is under constant pressure from Warren's defense, and on third-and-three, a strong stop by linebacker Kam Davis forced a punt. Warren took over at the Pocahontas 40-yard line, and their offense picked up right where it left off. Aaron Davis broke a 15-yard run to put the Lumberjacks inside the Pocahontas 30-yard line, and Burks connected with Josiah Steen for a first-and-goal.

Warren faced a setback on the following play, as a touchdown run by Jordan was called back due to a personal foul penalty, but it didn’t matter. The Lumberjacks quickly made up for it, with Burks finding Steen again for a touchdown from 14 yards out. The extra point made it 14-0 with 5:57 left in the first quarter.

Pocahontas had no answer for Warren’s high-powered offense, and their second drive ended in a turnover on downs after they failed to convert a critical fourth-and-one. Warren took over at the Pocahontas 31-yard line and needed just a few plays to add to their lead. Aaron Davis broke off a 46-yard touchdown run, powering his way into the end zone with 4:23 left in the first half. The extra point was good, making it 35-0.

The Redskins' offense never found a rhythm. A fumble recovery by Warren’s defense after a loose ball on a second-and-one run by Pocahontas gave the Lumberjacks another chance to extend their lead, but the first half ended with Warren up 35-0. The Redskins’ struggles continued into the second half, where the mercy rule was put into effect, meaning the clock continued to run even when no plays were happening.

With the clock running continuously due to the mercy rule, Warren continued to dominate both sides of the ball. After a fumble recovery on a Pocahontas kickoff return, the Lumberjacks were back in business at the Pocahontas 31-yard line. But the Lumberjacks failed to score on the drive, turning the ball over on downs with 5:39 left in the third quarter.

Pocahontas did manage to get on the scoreboard late in the third quarter with a touchdown, but it was far too little, too late. Their attempt at a two-point conversion was no good, as the pass was incomplete. That touchdown was the only positive moment for the Redskins on the night, and it did little to change the course of the game.

Warren’s offense was explosive, with multiple players contributing to the big win. Burks passed efficiently, while Aaron Davis and Antonio Jordan provided a dynamic rushing attack. Meanwhile, the defense was relentless, with players like Kam Davis and Braxton Hembree making key stops. The Lumberjacks’ dominant first-half performance set the tone for the rest of the game, and they never looked back.

As the clock ticked down in the third quarter, it became clear that the Lumberjacks were in full control, and the game ended with Warren’s 35-0 shutout victory. With their dominant win, Warren advances to the next round of the playoffs, where they will face a tougher challenge, but if they continue to play like this, they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Warren’s dominant performance was a testament to their skill, depth, and preparation, and they will be a team to watch as they continue their playoff run.
