The Warren City Council approved a five-year franchise agreement with GFL Environmental during a special called meeting Monday, March 3, securing solid waste collection services for the city.
The meeting opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance before being called to order with all members present. Council members approved minutes from the February meeting.
The session was convened to allow the Sanitation Committee to present the proposed franchise agreement with GFL Environmental. Three representatives of the company attended the meeting.
Under the agreement, GFL Environmental will provide residential and commercial garbage collection services. Beginning with the new contract, trash pickup will transition to one day per week. City officials said there will be no increase in rates for residents.
The council unanimously approved the agreement and adopted Ordinance 977, which will take effect Monday, April 6.
With no further business to address, the meeting was adjourned. The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 9.
