Warren airport renamed to Warren Muncipal Airport John B. Frazer, Jr. Field

The Warren Municipal Airport was renamed to Warren Municipal Airport John B. Frazer, Jr. Field in memory of the late John B. Frazer, Jr. The aviation commission requested the name change and it was approved by the Warren City Council on Monday, May 8.

The Bradley County Chamber of Commerce requested part of Cypress Street to be closed off on the Saturdays during Market on Main event happens.

The city council approved an ordinance to allow alderwoman Memory Burks-Frazer to keep her employment by the city for the city pool and to remain on the city council.

The city council passed a resolution for a sidewalk grant.

Resident Hugh Connor spoke before the city council during the public comments portion. He asked the city council for reserved parking signs in front of his store on Myrtle Street. He requested two spots. He said it was hard for people to park and it costs him business. He offered to purchase the signs if needed.

Warren Police Chief Shaun Hildreth reported the department was not able to get the new police officers enrolled in the police academy in time due to the missed deadline. He said the next session is in September. The Warren Police Department also received a new police vehicle.

Warren Fire Chief Chuck Moore reported the Warren Fire Department received a $3,500 grant from the Arkansas Forestry Commission to purchase equipment.

Sanitation Manager and Building Official Rob Johnson reported the sanitation department was fully staffed and they had hired a CDL driver.

Alderman Joel Tolefree said complaints were made on 507 Watts Street about the property.

Street Foreman Monty Hearnsberger said the Arkansas Department of Corrections helped with trash pickup in the community.

The Street Committee would revisit the request for commercial parking signs.

The Ways and Means Committee shared a proposal from Scenic Hills Solar to build a solar facility to power the city buildings.

The Community and Economic Development Committee made a motion to not re-enter the MOU with Warren Water and Sewer.

Warren Mayor Gregg Reep gave an update on the Bryant Building. He said it would be demolished shortly after the current demolition project downtown.

The city council approved to donate $200 to sponsor the Pink Tomato Festival.

The next city council meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 12 at the Warren Municipal Building.
