Lumberjacks defeat White Hall, 28-23

After a rough first half, the Warren Lumberjacks defeated the White Hall Bulldogs Friday night 28-23. Former Lumberjack and NFL player Jarius Wright came to his old stomping grounds as coach for the White Hall Bulldogs.

“It was totally different than last week,” said Lumberjack Coach Bo Hembree. “It’s a tale of two halves, we got to put two halves together. Right now, we’re not doing that. Last week we played a good first half and this week we played a good second half. Until we can put a whole game together, we better hurry up because we got a tough one in two weeks.”

The Lumberjacks received the opening kickoff. The Lumberjacks started on the 20-yard line. Maddox Lassiter started as quarterback.

The Lumberjacks weren’t able to get far down the field being forced to punt at 10:38 in the first quarter.

The Lumberjacks had some incomplete passes in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs completed a two-point conversion at 5:28 in the quarter.

The Bulldogs moved down to the eight-yard line at about 3:30 left in the quarter. They were able to make it to the three-yard line, where the Bulldogs scored their first touchdown at 2:15 left in the first quarter. After a successful kick, the Bulldogs had nine points and the Lumberjacks had zero.

The Lumberjacks caught the next kickoff at the five-yard line and made it to the 30-yard line.

A flag was thrown against the Bulldogs for unsportsmanlike conduct and was punished with a 15-yard penalty.

The Bulldogs went into the second quarter in the lead 9-0.

The Bulldogs attempted to intercept the ball at a play but failed to do so.

The Bulldogs attempted a field goal with 6:47 left in the second quarter, but it was incomplete.

In the last few minutes of the second quarter, the Lumberjacks offense played down the field.

The Lumberjacks pushed through to the eight-yard line and then the three-yard line, where the Lumberjacks were able to score a touchdown with two minutes left in the first half. Jacinto’s kick gave the Lumberjacks that extra point, making the score 9-7.

The Bulldogs caught the ball at kickoff and were able to rundown the ball to the end zone for a touchdown. The kick was complete keeping the Bulldogs in the lead in the first half, 16-7.

The Lumberjacks came in the third quarter ready to make up for the first half.

The Lumberjacks began to make a comeback recovering several fumbles.

Neeyo Harding recovered a fumble with eight minutes left of the third quarter.

Delfino Rivera recovered another fumble with 6:30 left of the third quarter at the 48-yard line.

Landon Wolfe ran 16 yards on the next play.

With the Lumberjacks on the six-yard line a few plays later, Wolfe ran through the Bulldogs defense for a Lumberjack touchdown with 4:38 in the quarter.

The Lumberjacks attempted a successful two-point conversion, closing the gap to the Bulldogs with a score of 16-15, with the Bulldogs still in the lead.

Harding recovered another fumble for the Lumberjacks.

The Bulldogs were penalized again for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Lumberjacks were able to move to seven-yard line.

Tayshawn Johnson ran around the defense and broke through to the end zone scoring a touchdown for the Lumberjacks. The Lumberjacks were then in the lead, 22-16.

The Lumberjacks came in the final quarter in the lead and were ready to keep it that way.

The Bulldogs soon scored another touchdown with 8:57 in the final quarter. Their kick was complete, putting the Bulldogs barely in the lead, 23-22.

The Lumberjacks continued playing hard the final quarter.

At 4:51 in the final quarter, Wolfe pushed through the Bulldogs defense from the two-yard line to the end zone.

The Lumberjacks attempted a two-point conversion, but it was no good. However, the Lumberjacks were back in the lead, 28-23.

With 45 seconds left in the final quarter, the Lumberjacks took a knee on their last two plays, keeping their lead and winning the game.

The Lumberjacks had 234 yards in total offense, with 181 on the ground, and 53 through the air.

The Lumberjacks have an off week this week. They will face Star City there in the next game on Thursday, September 15.
