Warren ABC Preschool hosted a butterfly release on Friday, May 10 to honor Sophie Joy Mendez. Mendez was diagnosed with Ependymoma on January 2, 2023. Ependymoma accounts for six percent of brain tumors found in children and approximately 200 children are diagnosed in the United States each year. Butterflies around the world are released to honor loved ones with Ependymoma. Their release also recognizes care partners and medical workers, and support research efforts. The delicate and beautiful butterfly was chosen to represent the spirit of the Ependymoma community as a symbol of hope through change.
