School Board receives update on high school

The Warren School Board received an update on Monday, June 13 about the progress of Warren High School after the fire that occurred in April. Warren High School will receive a Howard Technology ActivPanel at the cost of $192,993.73. This will replace the one from the fire. The school district will purchase and 26 computers that were damaged in the fire at the cost of $35,274.33. Both purchases are part of the insurance claim.

Warren School Superintendent Bryan Cornish reported that Metro Disaster Specialists installed portable buildings in the high school student parking lot. There will be 10 module buildings, with each module holding two classrooms with the capacity of 30 students. There will also be two portable office buildings and two restroom facilities available.

Superintendent Cornish also said that Metro Disaster Specialists completed the disposal of content in the interior of the Warren High School building. He said there was no tile in the building and the building was “completely gutted.” Metro Disaster Specialists will begin to clean the interior walls. Superintendent Cornish said he hopes students will be able to use the cafeteria by Thanksgiving. The entire roof of the building will be replaced starting at the cafeteria section.

The school board approved T&T Construction to clear trees and expand the parking lot at Warren High School. Furniture will also be purchased for the portable buildings and will then be moved to Warren High School when it opens back up.

In other business, the school board approved the following resignations: Jessica Howington, Eastside instructor; Angelique Fickle, Brunson instructor; Jasmine Bolen, Warren Middle School instructor; Daniel Williams, Warren High School assistant principal; Trent Wilson, head baseball coach, health instructor, defensive coordinator; Laura McKinney, Warren High School art instructor; Cody Jones, Warren High School history instructor; Lafoy Smith, Warren Middle School paraprofessional, assistant senior high and assistant junior high football stipend; and Cheyenne Wilson, computer lab facilitator at SEACBEC.

Larry Watson, a Warren High School instructor for seven years retired from the school district. Colleen Williams, ABC director and was with school district for 16 years, also retired.

The school district approved the following hire recommendations: Hannah Sweeney, Eastside instructor; Anna Miller, Eastside instructor; Dalliss Abraham, Warren Middle School instructor; Kristin Weeks, Warren Middle School instructor; Shaun Wilson, seventh grade math instructor, head boys soccer coach and assistant football coach; Correy Muldrew, Warren High School Assistant Principal; Jared Duton, Head baseball coach and secondary health instructor; Savannah Patterson, Warren High School history; Carrie Smith, Brunson instructor; Amy Momsen, Brunson instructor; Ashley Herring, paraprofessional at Eastside Elementary; Julie Roberts, Spanish facilitator and head girls soccer coach; and Pamela McEowen, out of school youth migrant program.

The school board approved school choice students. They also approved the school handbook changes.

The next school board meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 11 at the Warren School District Administration Building.
