Re-New-ing Edinburg holds monthly meeting

The February minutes were previously emailed to members, but were also distributed to those present. Motion was made by Melody Spears, seconded by Linda Hornaday, to approve the minutes as presented. Motion passed.

Linda Hornaday, Treasurer, passed out the financial statement and with no additions or corrections, it will be filed for audit.

Under old business, there was a game night held on February 26 which was well attended. Linda gave Melody Spears a check for the rental of the center. Considering the multiple events coming up, another game night was not scheduled.

Patricia McClellan advised the group that the last four bricks for the Veterans Park had been placed on order and should be delivered any day. At this time there are no plans to extend the Veterans Park. Roger McClellan had purchased a new POW flag and another larger flag for the park and Linda had reimbursed him for those purchases.

The community center BBQ held on March 14 was deemed a success. An auction was held at the event.

A brief discussion was held concerning the upcoming junk hunt to be held March 26-28. It was agreed to meet at the old Stewart’s store Thursday, March 19, at 10 a.m. to organize and price items. Currently, David Kemp, Trenna Kemp, Melody Spears and Brenda Triplett will work Thursday; Linda Hornaday, Brenda Triplett, Martha Tolano, and Melody Spears will work Friday; and David Kemp, Brenda Triplett, Melody Spears will work Friday. The community center will not be used for the spring junk hunt.

Those in attendance were also reminded that the runoff election for the Cleveland County Judge and Arkansas Secretary of State will be held Tuesday, March 31, and five members of Re-New-ing Edinburg will be working early voting the week of the junk hunt plus working the polls on March 31.

At the February meeting an Easter Egg hunt was scheduled for April 4 which is the day before Easter and the weekend after the junk hunt. Motion was made by Patricia McClellan, seconded by Linda Hornaday, to cancel the easter egg hunt this year. Motion passed.

The All School Reunion will be held April 18 at the New Edinburg Community Center. Considering that Mrs. Frankie Hall had previously provided raffle items for the event and has passed away, Patricia McClellan made a motion, seconded by Linda Hornaday, to spend no more than $300 on items to be used for a raffle, to purchase cupcakes for the event and tablecloths plus beads for décor. The $300 will be taken from the reunion account. Motion passed. Vicky Haycox will prepare name tags.

Re-New-ing Edinburg is once again participating in the Great American spring trash pickup and various members have already begun trash pickup. The flower boxes in downtown are being repaired and will be planted prior to the All School Reunion as a part of the spring cleanup. Patricia McClellan advised the group she had just received information that a Cleveland County Clean up day has been scheduled for May 2 and she passed around the informational brochure. She asked if anyone was interested in coordinating a trash pickup in New Edinburg on that day as several members are already participating in another event on that day. With no one available, it will be tabled until the April 21st meeting.

There will be a Cleveland County Judges forum held Thursday, March 19, at Bethel 2 in Rison.
