Lumberjacks stomp the Bobcats

The Lumberjacks continued their undefeated streak with a win against the Dumas Bobcats, 35-0.

“[The game] was better. In the first half, we came out and executed better offensively and defensively, [the Bobcats] didn’t get a first down until late in the first half,” said Lumberjack head coach Bo Hembree. “We just dominated in all three phases and its something we need to keep doing and keep getting better.”

The Lumberjacks offense stayed strong in the first quarter making it down the field.

Close to the end zone, Lumberjack Quarterback Maddox Lassiter scored the first touchdown early in the game pushing through two yards to score the touchdown. A successful kick by Jose Jacinto guaranteed the extra point, giving the Lumberjacks 7-0.

With 8:20 left in the first quarter, Lassiter performed an interception on the Bobcats’ third down at their 16-yard line.

Lassiter made a pass to Jalin Lee who ran straight to the end zone, before a flag was thrown against the Lumberjacks, causing a penalty.

Lassiter fired another pass to Antonio Jordan at the end zone for another touchdown. With the extra point by Jacinto, the Lumberjacks led with 14-0.

The Lumberjacks defense played strong, forcing the Bobcats to punt. The Lumberjacks took over the Bobcats’ 30-yard line.

Lassiter threw a long pass to Lee who flew down 30 yards for a first down at the 35-yard line.

A couple plays later, the Lumberjacks pushed to the 22-yard line.

Lassiter threw to Lee who ran 22 yards to the end zone, scoring another touchdown. With another successful kick by Jacinto, the Lumberjacks continued their streak with 21-0.

The Lumberjacks scored another touchdown early in the second quarter. Treylon Jackson ran 52-yards down the field with a two-yard rushing touchdown. Jacinto did what he did best, scoring the extra point. The Lumberjacks led 28-0.

At 5:54 in the first half, the Lumberjacks were forced to punt at the 45-yard line.

The Lumberjacks strong defense forced the Bobcats to punt again.

Landon Wolfe completed a 62-yard drive to the end zone. Jacinto gave the Lumberjacks the extra point, giving them 35-0.

Coming out of halftime, the sportsmanship rule was put in place, keeping the clock running.

In the final half, the Lumberjacks continued to prevent the Bobcats from scoring.

The final score was 35-0.

The Lumberjacks put up 357 yards total offense with 222 on the ground and 135 in the air.

Jackson had 11 carries for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Matthew Powell got four carries and picked up 45 yards in the game.

Cody Weatherspoon reached 41 yards on five touches.

Landon Wolfe had four carries in the game for 32 yards and a touchdown.

Lassiter and Jordyn Ingram had three carries. Ingram posted 21 yards. Lassiter posted 17 yards and scored a touchdown.

Lassiter threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

The Lumberjacks continue their 5-1 overall season next week against DeWitt. The Lumberjacks will play at home for homecoming week.
