Lumberjacks roll past Crossett to secure home playoff game

The Warren Lumberjacks left no doubt about their postseason intentions Friday night, powering past the Crossett Eagles 66–28 at Yarbrough Field to clinch a home playoff game next week. Behind a dominant performance from senior running back Aaron Davis and a balanced offensive attack led by quarterback Jackson Denton, the Lumberjacks turned a tight first half into a statement win to close out conference play.
Warren entered the night third in the 8-4A standings, while Crossett sat sixth. The Eagles won the coin toss and struck first, but once the Lumberjacks found their rhythm, they never looked back.
Crossett opened the game with quarterback Cash Forrest leading a steady drive before being forced to punt. Warren immediately answered, leaning on Davis, who ripped off a 24-yard run and later punched it in from six yards out for the game’s first score. The extra point missed, giving Warren an early 6–0 lead.
The Eagles responded midway through the quarter when Forrest connected with Nalls on a 66-yard touchdown strike to take a 7–6 lead. But the Lumberjacks’ offense continued to roll. Tayshawn Edwards found the end zone from 16 yards out, and Warren reclaimed the advantage at 13–7.
Crossett wasn’t done yet—Forrest found a receiver for another long touchdown to make it 14–13 Eagles. But Warren answered again before the end of the quarter when Davis and Jackson Denton led a drive deep into Eagle territory. Davis was stopped just short as time expired, leaving Crossett clinging to a one-point lead after one.
The Lumberjack special teams flipped the momentum early in the second quarter. Blayze Fellows returned a punt deep into Crossett territory, and Davis finished the short drive with his second touchdown of the night, putting Warren back ahead 20–14.

After a key defensive stop, Warren had a chance to extend the lead, but the drive stalled. Crossett capitalized on its next possession as Forrest scrambled and found the end zone from three yards out, swinging the game back to 21–20 in favor of the Eagles with 3:43 left in the half.
That’s when Warren exploded. Davis set up great field position with a strong return, and Denton hit Fellows for a touchdown to go back on top 26–21. The Lumberjacks successfully executed an onside kick, and Denton quickly connected with Fellows again for another score, stretching the lead to 32–21.
Warren wasn’t done—after a late interception, Denton found Fellows yet again, this time for a 42-yard strike in the final seconds of the half. The Lumberjacks headed to the locker room up 38–21 and full of momentum.
Warren opened the third quarter the same way they closed the first half—fast and aggressive. Recovering another onside kick, Denton hit Josiah Steen for a 42-yard touchdown less than a minute into the half, pushing the margin to 45–21.
Moments later, Davis rumbled 11 yards for his third touchdown, and the lead ballooned to 51–21 with 10:32 still remaining in the third. Crossett managed to answer with a touchdown of its own, but Davis continued his personal highlight reel with a 20-yard burst and another short score to make it 59–28.
Davis wasn’t finished—he added yet another touchdown late in the third, capping a 28-point quarter for Warren and triggering the sportsmanship rule as the running clock took over with the Jacks up 66–28.
With reserves entering for both sides, the fourth quarter moved quickly. Crossett found the end zone once more, but it wasn’t nearly enough to slow the Warren onslaught.
Davis led the way for the Lumberjacks, piling up multiple touchdowns and powering the offense behind a dominant Warren line. Denton spread the ball effectively, connecting repeatedly with Fellows and Steen, while the Lumberjack defense tightened after early big plays, forcing turnovers and stops when it mattered most.
The win improves Warren’s conference standing and locks up a home playoff game next Friday night, November 14, at 7 p.m. The Lumberjacks will look to carry their late-season momentum into the postseason as they continue their pursuit of another deep playoff run.
