Local and state primary election results announced

Arkansans voted on Tuesday, May 24, in the 2022 primary election for state and local elections. The 2022 midterm elections will be on Tuesday, November 8.

Locally, Bradley County had two Justice of the Peace positions on the ballot for District 5 and District 9. Tony Cathey won the most votes for District 5 with 47 total votes. His opposing candidate, James W. Williams, received 40 total votes. Justice of the Peace candidate Dana Harvey won the majority vote with 91 total votes. Sharon Balentine, another candidate, received 71 votes, and Eddie “Wayne” Parnell, Jr. received 36 total votes.

In the Democrat primary for State Representative District 94, Curley Jackson received 212 votes in Bradley County. His opponent, Andrew Pritt, received 31 votes. Jackson received 73.39 percent of the votes in the state and Pritt received 26.61 percent, making Jackson the winner of the primary.

In the Republican U.S. Senate, John Boozman received the most votes in Bradley County with 657 total votes. Boozman also won the Republican primary in Arkansas with 58.04 percent of the state vote.

In the Republican Attorney General race, Tim Griffin received more votes than his opponent Leon Jones, Jr. in Bradley County with 870 votes compared to Jones’ 82 votes. In the state, Griffin received 85.39 percent of the votes, winning the primary.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders received the majority vote for the Republican Governor primary in Bradley County with 921 total votes. Her opponent, Francis “Doc” Washburn received 51 votes in the county. Sanders won 83.16 percent of the state vote, allowing her to win the Republican Governor Primary.

Leslie Rutledge received the most votes in Bradley County with 688 total votes for the Republican Lieutenant Governor primary. She also won the Republican primary in the state with 54.03 percent of the vote. Her opponents were Jason Rapert, Greg Bledsoe, Joseph Wood, Doyle Webb, and Chris Bequette.

 John Thurston received 719 votes in Bradley County for the Republican Secretary of State Primary. The opposing candidate received 222 votes in the county. Thurston won Republican primary with 72.11 percent of the votes.

Mark Lowery received 812 total votes in the county for the Republican State Treasurer Primary. Matthew Pitsch received 124 votes. Lowery won the primary with 74.79 percent of the votes in the state.

 In the Democrat U.S. Senate Primary, Natalie James received 121 total votes in Bradley County. She also won 54.12 percent of the state votes, giving her the Democrat Primary. Her opponents were Jack Foster and Dan Whitfield.

Chris Jones won the most votes in Bradley County for the Democrat Governor Primary with 168 votes. He also won 70.47 percent of the vote in Arkansas, giving him the win for the Democratic Primary. His opponents were Jay Martin, Anthony “Tony” Bland, James “Rus” Russell, III, and Supha Xayprasith-Mays.

In the Democrat Secretary of State Primary, Anna Beth Gorman received 159 total votes in Bradley County. Her opponent, Josh Price, received 116 total votes in the county. Gorman won 58.59 percent of the state vote, winning the Democrat Primary.

Robin Wynne received 851 votes in the county for the State Supreme Court Associate Justice Position 2. The opposing candidates were David Sterlin and Judge Chris Carnahan. Wynne won the position with 49.56 percent of the state votes.

Karen Baker received 826 total votes in the county for the State Supreme Court Associate Justice Position 6 and her opponent, Gunner Delay, received 380 county votes. Baker received 64 percent of the state vote and won the position.

Quincey Ross received 158 votes in the county for Circuit Judge, District 10, Division 04, Subdistrict 10.1. His opponent, Demetria L. Edwards, received 63 votes in the county.
