Hermitage streets to be repaved

The Hermitage City Council announced what streets will be re-paved at the city council meeting on Thursday. The streets to be re-paved in Hermitage are North School Drive, West School Drive, East Fourth Street, and Wood Street. The city received a bid for the project.

Hermitage Mayor Matt Cathey asked for prayers for the family of the late James Hamilton, who was the city attorney for Hermitage. Hamilton recently passed away.

Mayor Cathey said a lawyer in Little Rock was helping Hamilton on the sewer project and the lawyer would help out on the project.

Mayor Cathey reported $1,100 had been donated so far for the upcoming Hermit Daze Festival. The festival will take place on May 20. The mayor requested approval to open a separate bank account for the funds from Hermit Daze. He told the city council the money will go back to the community. The city council approved to open a separate account at First State Bank.

Mayor Cathey said they were working on fun park grants and other grants for the city.

He also commented he had a meeting set up with Mainline Health to discuss the possibility of setting up a doctor’s office in Hermitage.

It was brought up about citizen’s concern about underage drivers driving without a driver’s license. Hermitage Police Chief said there has to be reasonable suspension or probable cause to pull someone over.

Chief Poole presented his monthly report to the city council. The following citations were given: four speeding, two no driver’s licenses, and one no seat belt. There were seven total arrests.

The W.B. Reasons sign will be completed on May 10.

Tiffany Curtis was approved by the city council to be on the housing authority board for Hermitage Apartments.

The Public Works Department reported the water samples sent to the Arkansas Department of Health passed inspection.

Six dogs were picked up by animal control.

The next city council meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 18 at the Hermitage Community Center.
