For the Nichols family, one of the newest additions to Warren’s business community began as just a dream.
After more than a year of planning, construction and countless hours of work, Big Chiefs Exxon has officially opened its doors, bringing fuel, food and new jobs to Bradley County.
The family-owned business, located on Smith Road, celebrated its grand opening last week, marking the completion of a project that family members say required long days, late nights and a commitment to creating something Warren residents could be proud of. Public updates shared throughout construction documented major milestones, such as installation of fuel tanks, concrete work, and plumbing as the project steadily moved toward completion.
To the family, Big Chiefs represents an investment in the community and an opportunity to provide jobs while offering products tailored to local customers.
The business currently employs more than a dozen individuals with hopes to expand to 35 employees, creating new opportunities in Warren and helping support the local economy.
Customers visiting Big Chiefs will find regular and diesel fuel, along with convenience store staples designed to serve both local residents and travelers passing through south Arkansas.
However, the Nichols family hopes to distinguish the business through fresh offerings that reflect the area’s agricultural roots and small-town values.
Among those offerings are homemade desserts prepared fresh for customers, as well as fresh tomatoes and other produce when available.
The addition of diesel fuel service is expected to make the location a convenient stop for commercial drivers, agricultural producers, and others who rely on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
Big Chiefs joins a growing number of locally-owned businesses that continue to invest in Warren despite economic challenges facing many rural communities. Family-owned enterprises have long played a significant role in the city’s economy, and the Nichols family’s decision to build and operate the business reflects confidence in Warren’s future.
Community support was evident throughout the process, with local residents following construction updates online and expressing anticipation for the station’s opening.
Now that the doors are open, the Nichols family is focused on serving customers and establishing Big Chiefs as a destination for both residents and visitors. Whether someone needs a tank of gas, diesel fuel for a work truck, a fresh dessert, or produce for the dinner table, the family hopes the business will become a regular stop for people throughout Bradley County.
