Conscience the greatest preacher

Posted

You can stir a lively debate among churchgoers everywhere with this leading question. Who is the greatest preacher who ever lived?

Every church has searched for the perfect preacher. You will be interested to know that after hundreds of years a model preacher has been found to suit everyone.

He preaches exactly 20 minutes and then sits down. He condemns sin but never hurts anyone’s feelings. He works from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. in every type of work from preaching to taxi services. He makes 60 dollars a week, wears good clothes, buys good books regularly, has a nice family, drives a good car and gives 30 dollars a week to the church. He also stands ready to contribute to every good work that comes along. He is 26 years old and has been preaching for 30 years. He is tall and short, thin and heavy set, plain looking, but handsome. He has one brown eye and one blue, hair parted in the middle, left side straight and dark, the other side wavy and blonde. He has a burning desire to work with teenagers and spends all his time with the older folks. He smiles all the time with a straight face, because he has a sense of humor that keeps him seriously dedicated to his work. He makes 15 calls a day on church members, spends all his time evangelizing the unchurched and is never out of his office. He is a truly remarkable person – and he does not exist!

The preacher I am talking about today is an instrument in the hands of God in whom there is no fault at all. I submit to you that he is the greatest preacher in history and that you have heard him preach many times.

His pulpit has been the world! He has never played favorites. He ministers with an unprejudiced outlook. His first sermon was preached in the Garden of Eden. Cain heard his cries in the night after Abel’s blood was spilled on the rock. Jacob hears his voice constantly. David shook when he preached in the palace. He is still preaching, more fervently, with more anointing than ever before.

You ask, “who in the world are you talking about?”. I am talking about Conscience. His congregation has included every person who has walked this planet. You can walk past the open door of churches but you cannot get away from this preacher. He gets his message across in such a way that you have to make a choice.

Jesus Christ is the only one who can turn your conscience from your pursuer into your friend. He is the only way. Jesus offers you mercy and forgiveness of sins. He is the only way to eternal life in Heaven.

Your conscience is valiantly striving to bring you to Jesus. You consider him your tormentor. The truth of the matter is this: conscience is not only the greatest preacher who ever lived; he is also the best friend you have ever had.
