The Bradley County Chamber of Commerce board met Monday, April 13, for its regular monthly meeting, where members reviewed finances, discussed recent events and planned for upcoming community activities.
Following the call to order, the board approved the minutes from the March meeting and reviewed the monthly financial report. Treasurer Jane Harris reported the Chamber remains in good financial standing. The report was approved by the board.
In special events, Estephany Roman reported that the March “Market on Main” was successful, generating approximately $100 for the Chamber. The annual Easter Egg Hunt, held April 4 at the city park, also drew a positive response despite inclement weather. Adjustments to the event included canceling the free hot dog vendor and inflatable attractions; however, all attending children received Easter eggs.
Nancy Arnold said approximately 3,000 eggs were distributed among about 100 participants. Board members discussed both strengths and areas for improvement in preparation for next year’s event.
Roman also announced that the next “Market on Main” and Pop-Up Shop will be held Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Mane Event on North Martin Street. Between 10 and 15 vendors are expected to participate.
Planning continued for the 70th Annual Pink Tomato Festival, scheduled for June. James Wells emphasized the need for additional volunteers and encouraged community members to attend the next all-committee meeting set for Thursday, April 16, at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building courtroom. He noted that carnival rides, food vendors and live music will be part of this year’s festival, though the musical act has not yet been announced.
In old business, Wells reported that Arnold has been researching new banners for Main Street light poles. The city has purchased new brackets, as existing banners no longer fit. The board agreed that new banners will be made of canvas rather than vinyl to prevent shrinkage. The Chamber plans to use a local vendor and fund the purchase through a grant. Approved designs include banners for the Pink Tomato Festival, Historic Downtown Warren, Christmas and an American flag.
In new business, Arnold announced that Southeast Arkansas Community Based Education Center (SEACBEC) will donate an item for Chamber fundraising efforts. The board also noted upcoming changes to local businesses, including the closure of Krista’s Boutique and The Flying Tomato. Members said a children’s clothing store is expected to open in the former Spinning Wheel location, and a new flea market will occupy the current Flying Tomato site.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next Chamber of Commerce board meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 11, at noon.
