Bullying addressed at March Warren School Board meeting

   A parent spoke up at the Warren School Board meeting last Monday to address the issue of bullying in the middle school. The parent voiced her concerns about the school and the bullying that was taking place. She spoke on behalf of her child and another parent, whose child was also allegedly being bullied. The parent told the school board this was an ongoing issue. She asked the school board what needed to be done to provide a safe and secure environment for her child and others in the school.

   Superintendent Bryan Cornish told the parent he was not aware of the complaint, but was willing to sit with her and other parents to discuss more about the allegations of bullying. He told the parent the school district had regulations that had to be followed in the matters of bullying. He agreed that students should feel safe at school. Dr. Kerry Pennington, vice chairman of the school board also said that parents had brought up the bullying issues to him. He said the procedures might need to be reviewed to deal with the issue. He said the procedure must be fair and effective.

   Superintendent Bryan Cornish reported they were still figuring out what to do for the rest of the school year and next school year, due to the Warren High School fire. He said they were reevaluating the situation every day. 

   The school board approved the 2022-2023 certified salary schedule, classified salary schedule, and the transportation salary schedule. There were no changes to the certified salary except for those over 15 years. The classified salary received a 15-cent increment raise. There was no change to the transportation salary.

   The school board accepted the following resignations: Skye Clanton, as Brunson Dean of Students; Brandi Green, as Brunson Counselor; Kaytlin Outlaw, as instructor at Warren Middle School; Kaitlyn Raines, as instructor at Warren Middle School; Ashley Richardson, as instructor at Warren Middle School and yearbook advisor; Sarah Moore, as instructor at Warren High School; and Qaveshia Banks, as ABC paraprofessional.

   The school board accepted the retirement of Judy Moring as Eastside Elementary instructor.

   The school board approved the following hire recommendations: Emily Johnston, as Brunson Counselor; Lee Ann James, as media specialist; Rosalyn Avery, as fourth grade literacy instructor; Brittany Moring, as fourth grade literacy instructor; Nathaniel Jackson, as Warren Middle School counselor; Colemon Horn, for E-Sports; Randi Hasley, as Warren High School Cheer Sponsor; and Shaneice Harris, as Eastside paraprofessional.

   The next school board meeting will be on Monday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. It will be held at the Warren School Administration Building.
