BCMC Board receives updates on finances

The Bradley County Medical Center Governing Board met Thursday, Aug. 24 inside the conference room at the hospital to hold its monthly meeting that included financial reports, executive updates, and policy approvals.

Statistics for the month of July saw increases from the previous month and the previous year in Swing Bed days, all therapy treatments, and Senior Care days. July has seen strong patient volumes and revenue. Roof work has been completed at the hospital and plumbing work at the Brunson Medical Complex has been finished as well.

Financial reports were presented by Controller Matt Pace, who reported that year to date volumes, as well as year to month were up in most areas. The hospital reported a net income of $19,868 in July. The gross patient revenue for July was $4,088,377.  There was a net operating revenue of $2,023,531 with a loss operating Income of $62,901 in the month of July. There was $116,732.27 in sales tax revenue for the previous month and a total of $4,391,683.90 in the sales tax account.

CEO/CFO Leslie Huitt’s updates included information about generator use, Stroudwater reports, and the need to hire another worker for the maintenance department. There are a couple of retirements on the horizon, and they are wanting to hire someone to train with the current staff who will be certified in HVAC, plumbing, and/or have their boiler licenses. The board approved opening the position, and it will be posted soon. Huitt ended by updating the board on the continued transition to Meditech.

CNO Jamie Wolfe’s report stated there has been an uptick in COVID cases among staff and patients over the past few weeks, but none have been severe. Additionally, he announced that Paige Stell is back with BCMC as the new ER manager.

Annual policy approvals included Employee Health, IT, and Respiratory Therapy. A new COVID-19 vaccination recommendation policy was approved while previous policies were retired. The board also accepted a number of new telemedicine policies for the BCMC Rural Health Clinic.

Medical staff recommendations were approved, and the board went into executive session to conclude the meeting.
