An Arbor Day celebration was held on Friday at First Baptist Church where trees were planted by the Arkansas Forestry Commission and students from First Baptist Church Christian School.

Judy Gibson, president of the Warren Woman’s Club welcomed everyone to the event. She read the poem titled “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer. The poem was written in 1717.

Rev. John Gaskin, from First Baptist Church led the invocation. The Bradley County Veterans presented the Pledge of Allegiance. Bradley County Judge Klay McKinney shared the importance of trees. Warren Mayor Gregg Reep stated an Arbor Day Proclamation.

Students from First Baptist Church Christian School sang the hymn Rock of Ages. The students then planted the Arbor Day tree.

Arbor Day was first celebrated in Nebraska as the result of the efforts of J. Stanley Morton in 1872 when school children planted over 1,000 trees. This year is the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day.
