The Hermitage City Council met for their monthly meeting on Thursday, May 23 to discuss various issues. Mayor Matt Cathey opened the meeting with a motion to accept the previous month’s minutes. All were in favor.
Next, police chief, Ben Poole presented his report to the council. For the month of April citations were as follows: two for terroristic threatening, one for battery in the third degree, and two for fleeing on foot which brought the total to five. A motion was made to accept the police report and all were in favor.
The fire report was presented next and Cathey reported that both of the city’s fire trucks were fully functional and ready for use.
Travis Stanley then gave the City Works report saying that all collected samples passed for water and sewer. A leak was repaired on East Fourth Street in front of Jackson’s Garage. The city has also been trimming limbs on Hwy. 160 and Hickory Street. A motion was made to accept the City Works report and all were in favor.
It was reported that one dog had been caught and put in the city pen bringing the total to seven dogs which are all available for adoption.
There were no reports for the Disaster Response Team or city attorney.
Cathey then presented the Mayor’s report saying that the second annual Hermit Daze Festival went very well and between donations and money raised on the day of, the city raised around $8000.00. Head Bangers Ice Cream, Sirenitas Crab Boil, and Spud Love were just a few of the food trucks that lined Main Street along with vendors. Avery Langford opened for Josie Hargis and each singer entertained festival goers who brought out lawn chairs and enjoyed the music.
The sewer project that was in danger of being shut down was completed. The city would like to create a larger parking area at the community center and is waiting on an estimate from Johnsville Sand and Gravel. A motion was made to accept the mayor’s report and all were in favor.
The meeting was then adjourned. The next meeting will be on Thursday, June 20.
