The Bradley County Quorum Court met on Thursday evening, February 20, with discussions focused on the near completion of the county's new building on Smith Road, ongoing projects, and a resolution concerning the landfill.

The meeting began with the approval of the minutes from the previous session. A motion was made to approve, and the motion passed unanimously.
Next on the agenda was the sheriff's report, which also received unanimous approval.
Bradley County Judge Klay McKinney then took the floor to present his report on the new building located on Smith Road. McKinney announced that the project was approximately 99 percent complete, with only a few remaining tasks before the building is ready for use.
"The building lacks about four sheets of metal," McKinney stated. "The inside has sheetrock and is painted, but the biggest part left is the kitchen. This next week, we should get that finished up.”
He added that the majority of the remaining work is related to electrical installations. McKinney went on to share details about the interior design of the building.
"There will be a polished concrete floor," he explained. "The contractor came last week, and we had him do a test run to make sure he was up to standards."
The building's contract deadline is set for March 1, but McKinney expressed doubts about meeting the deadline.
"Unless somebody works the midnight oil, I’m very doubtful that they’re going to make that deadline," he remarked.
After construction is finished, the county will focus on improving the surrounding road and parking lot. The building will serve as a venue for county events, but it will also be available for private functions.
"My goal is to have it done before the Pink Tomato Festival," McKinney said. "It’s something we’re proud of and hope to use for a long time."
The next quorum court meeting will feature representatives from Jail Standards, who will provide further updates on the jail situation.
"We hope to have more information about the jail situation," McKinney said. "It’s a slow process, but there are a lot of irons in the fire."
The meeting continued with the introduction of Resolution 2025-1, which addresses the county landfill.
"This resolution is about the landfill," McKinney explained. "We have to put up a bond issue in the case that we don’t take care of our responsibilities so they can hire someone to come and keep it clean."
A motion was made and seconded to pass the resolution, and it was approved unanimously by the quorum court.
With no further business, a motion to adjourn was made, and the meeting concluded. The next Bradley County Quorum Court meeting is scheduled for March 17.
