The city of Hermitage held it’s monthly city council meeting on Thursday, January 23 at the Hermitage Community Center. The meeting was opened with a motion to approve the previous month’s minutes. All voted in favor.
The council then heard from Hermitage Police Chief, Ben Poole. The police department had the following citations for December: one for no proof of insurance, one for driving while intoxicated, one for driving on a suspended license, one for driving left of center, and one for criminal mischief. A motion was made to accept the police report and all voted in favor.
Next, the council heard the Public Works report. A leak on Fourth Street had previously been reported, but has since been repaired. All samples for December passed testing. A motion to accept the Public Works report was passed and all council members voted in favor.
It was then reported that there are currently five dogs in the city dog pen. All dogs are up for adoption.
The city has been working with attorney, Ricky Roper and a meeting will be scheduled to talk about a sewer and water rate increase.
Cathey then presented the Mayor’s report. Cathey told the council that a message about the pending sewer and water rate increase will be posted on the back of the water bills.
“We want everyone to be aware of the increase before it happens,” Cathey said.
Cathey then told the council that he is looking into grants for things like public infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, or business development.
Cathey then discussed the possible purchase of 213 East Grand Avenue by the city.
“That’s something we can think about,” Cathey said. “There are two possible grants that we can look at to help do something with the lot.”
Cathey reported that a camera will soon be installed at the intersection of highways 63 and 160.
“With the new camera, we will have eyes on the intersection, 24/7, 365 days a year,” Cathey told the council.
A motion was made to accept the mayors report and everyone voted in favor. A motion was then made to adjourn.
