First Annual Pink Tomato Pie Contest

Posted

The 2024 Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival welcomed the first annual Pink Tomato Pie Contest to this year’s many activities. The inaugural pie contest was held on Saturday morning at the First Methodist Church and proved a great success with 21 entries. Thanks to the great bakers who were part of this competition. The bakers began arriving soon after 7:30 a.m. with their beautiful and tasty creations. The pies of all varieties, tasted great and were beautifully presented. Almost half were pies with tomatoes and the others many all-time favorites.

Mary Joyce Mullins entered her “Hot Tomato Tart” pie and was the over-all winner. At the annual Pink Tomato Festival Luncheon, she was presented her first place prize and her certificate for entry in the State Pie Competition. Other winners receiving recognition at the luncheon were Madison Mashburn, of Hermitage, who was the first place winner for her Old Fashioned Coconut Pie, Doug Thornton of Hermitage, who received second place for his Smoked Cheese Tomato Pie, and Hannah Hill of Crossett, Ark., who was the second place winner for her Double Berry Pie.

We are looking forward to the second annual competition during the 2025 Pink Tomato Festival where we will again celebrating the wonderful bakers in our area.
